Officer Duties

Master (President)

  • Preside at all meetings of the Grange
  • Appoints committee chairpersons
  • See that all officers and members of committees appointed perform their respective duties
  • Declare the results of all balloting and other votes of the Grange
  • See that all laws and usages of the Order are duly understood and obeyed

President’s Handbook

Overseer (Vice President)

  • Assist the President in preserving the order and decorum in the Grange. Preside in the absence of the President
  • Assist in the appointment of committees

Lecturer (Program Director)

  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate programs of interest to the membership at each lecture meeting
  • Attend regional grange conferences when able and report back to the membership
  • Prepare and submit news items to media outlets when appropriate if no one else is assigned to do so
  • Preside in the absence of the President and Vice President

Steward

  1. Arrive early on meeting nights to prepare and arrange the hall with the aid of the Assistant Stewards
  2. Follow proper flag presentation procedures
  3. Care for and maintain grange furniture, regalia, and implements with the aid of the Assistant Stewards
  4. Properly stow grange furniture, regalia, and implements at the conclusion of a meeting with the aid of the Assistant Stewards
  5. Conduct initiation and such other ritualistic ceremonies as may be required with the aid of the Assistant Steward
  6. Preside in the absence of the President and Vice President and Program Director

Assistant Steward & Lady Assistant Steward

  • Arrive early on meeting nights to prepare and arrange the hall to assist the Steward
  • Care for and maintain grange furniture, regalia, and implements per instruction of the Steward
  • Properly stow grange furniture, regalia, and implements at the conclusion of a meeting to assist the Steward

Chaplain

  • Prepare an opening and closing prayer and conduct the membership through it at meetings
  • Lead the grange through an annual memorial, coordinating with the lecturer, honoring all deceased members
  • Send cards and letters on behalf of the grange membership to those who are sick or in distress

Treasurer

  • Keep accurate financial records and give a complete report of all accounts during each business meeting
  • Receive income and deposits from the Secretary
  • Pay bills out on a timely manner
  • Ensure and present the records to the finance committee for auditing a minimum of annually
  • Ensure budgets, including those from motions, are documented and tracked
  • Manage investments held by the Grange

Treasurer’s Handbook

Secretary

  • Record all official proceeding of the Grange
  • Keep accurate records of the membership, dues, and their standing of the Grange
  • Receive all grange correspondence and respond as appropriate
  • Make all necessary reports to Pomona and State Granges
  • Record all income received and bills to be paid before transferring to the Treasurer
  • Ensure that the past minute books and items of Grange history are complete and preserved
  • Complete all IRS forms by due date

Secretaries Handbook

Gatekeeper (Greeter)

  • Welcome visitors and new members to Grange meetings and make them feel welcome
  • Introduce visitors at the beginning of grange meetings

Executive Committee

  • Meet when the Grange is not in session, in time of emergency or urgency, to make decisions on behalf of the membership
  • Audit the Secretaries and Treasures work at minimum annually
  • Provide such oversight as may be required to insure the safety and security of the property of the Grange

Ceres & Pomona & Flora

  • Decorate the hall for meetings as appropriate per the meeting or season
  • Perform counts of ballots during required voting activities

Musician

  • Select music for beginning and end of meetings
  • Lead the grange members through the songs at the beginning and end of a meeting
